"Lost" Season 2 Episode 19 - S.O.S.

Ahhh yes. The Rose and Bernard episode. I'll admit it, I didn't think they'd ever give the intriguing subplot of the happy couple any flashback time, that is until I listened to the official Lost Podcast earlier this week! And the result? We got another fantastic episode to add to the Lost Lore. Not much to talk about with respect to hidden Easter Eggs in the episode, but I'm sure we'll find SOMETHING to talk about. When you're as long winded and rambling as me, you always find something! So here we go!

Henry and the Hatch

This guy is getting creepier and creepier as the weeks go by. And clearly he is definitely getting to people. He's driven Jack out on a rampage to try and set up a trade for Walt. And he's driven Locke to madness on the importance/unimportance of entering in the numbers. And the best part about it all? He said only 6 words this week, but they will resonate with Lost fans for who knows how long? (maybe the rest of the series?) If you want to hear more about the man behind the fake Henry, Preston and Steve had an interview with Michael Emerson yesterday. He is a resident of New York, and there's a good chance that he may be stopping in for the Lost Finale Party that P&S are setting up. • "They'll Never Give You Walt" - That accompanied by a laugh was Henry's money line of the week. This accompanied with Zeke's "We're gonna have to take the boy" from the season 1 finale, reinforces the fact that Walt is one special kid. And from what we saw of him last season, he seems to have some crazy abilities. Of course it could be all coincidental. Some of the text on the map we saw a couple weeks ago was Latin for Polar Bears. So, maybe Walt didn't create the Polar Bear from reading Hurley's Spanish comic book as we previously thought. Maybe he didn't make a rare bird fly into his window in Australia and die after reading about the very same bird. But these seem way too coincidental if you ask me! Hey I'm still wondering why we've never revisited that crazy coconut juice that Locke put on Boone's head and made him hallucinate and see Shannon die in season 1. Of course....I wonder if this is related to why Boone and Shannon are dead now? This is what happens when there's not much to talk about in an episode....my mind starts to wander! But seriously....I hope all of those things aren't red herrings and that we'll be getting back to them! And as Michael Emerson tells us in his little interview, the producers already have things plotted out for 2 seasons in advance. They are expecting someone that has already left us....to return in 2 years! That's crazy! (obviously, it will probably be in a flashback..but still! Yes...the producers promised us that no people will come back to life after they have died! The podcasts are a good time!)
• My big question is....if we DO see Walt again this season or the next...we're supposed to believe that only 2 months have passed. Walt is going to hit his growth spurt and his voice is going to change. Are we supposed to assume that it happened in these few months that he was away? Anyone see him on "My Name Is Earl?" his voice is a bit deeper now! But hey...maybe people age quicker on the mystery island where paralysis is cured and cancer goes away! We'll get to that in a bit.
• So Henry is definitely getting to Locke with these numbers. We see Locke this week trying to recreate the map and getting frustrated in the process. This boy is looking for some serious answers and direction. Supposedly, I read somewhere that he was writing on top of a book with French Writing. I don't know if anyone has translated this yet. But if I find anything, I'll post it in comments later.
• And Henry is definitely getting Jack impatient with his lack of information. You have to think that Henry told Jack and Locke of the concept of the "TRADE" for a reason. Is this all one big elaborate setup by the Others? And if that's the case, is Rousseau part of the conspiracy (since she captured Henry and told them that he will Lie for awhile). Not to mention that we saw a Rousseau trap in this episode, but the bait was a doll! If it wasn't Alex's doll, then was it one from the Medical Hatch (the baby room?)? I'm getting ahead of myself.... but we have to think that we saw that doll for a reason. Either way it looks like that doll was pretty beaten up....like it had been there for quite some time.
• Ana Lucia was messing around with something in the hatch, was that a Can Opener? A "Jack" in the box? What in the world was she doing? Just thought it was worth mentioning, I have no answers.
• One more thing about Henry. Anyone see the previews for the next episode? Looks like Henry has been leading them on to how weak he is. It looks like he makes a violent move on Ana Lucia.....with Ethan-like strength. ooooh fun!

Rose/Bernard's crazy lovefest

• Ok, the big reveal of the night: Rose had Cancer. Had being the key word, because now she believes that she's cured. This explains a bit why she's been so positive yet mysterious since they've crashed on the island. And it might explain why she's married to the teacher from Growing Pains! She had a 1-year limit on life and Bernard was a Bachelor for 57 years!
• And we also saw the linking between Locke and Rose prior to getting on the plane. And Rose saw Locke in that wheelchair! Someone KNOWS his secret! She also suggested that Locke's current leg injury would heal in less than 4 weeks. (I checked the episode last week again, and Jack actually said "a couple weeks")
• So we're meant to think that there's some ultimate healing power on the island. Let's look at some of the crazy miracles that supposedly have happened since coming to the island
  - Locke was cured from paralysis
  - Rose was cured from cancer and certain death
  - Unconfirmed - Jin is now able to pro-create. From the look on Sun's face at the end of last night's episode, I'd say we're still not sure about this!
  - And let's not forget the crazy Miracle of Jack fixing his future wife Sarah. This was off the island but it still happened.
  - Is Libby no longer insane? (we need more information on her still)
  
  I still am a firm believer that nothing is as it seems. I have been saying all of this season that I think Locke was somehow meant to think he was paralyzed when he never really was. Maybe Rose was meant to think she had Cancer? She says she feels different. But that could all be from the shock of Locke walking on the island. Same with Hurley as we learned last week. I mean, DAVE certainly looked real with all the stuff he was throwing at Hurley, didn't he? Maybe Hurley was meant to think that he was delirious when he never was. It's all speculation, but it would certainly be an explanation of how people are reacting to the Island. Plus I like to be different than the common theories where people just think that the Island is a miracle! Sure, the Dream theory and Purgatory theory come into play here too. But if they're already dead...why is Locke injured? And if it's a dream? well it's not a dream! lol...yeah a Dream theory would resolve everything, but it's not going to be that easy!
• So, let's put aside whether the miracles are real or not..what does this all boil down to? Some people do NOT want to leave the island. As Eko said while building his Church (confirmed!), "We are all found in different ways." Yeah that wasn't verbatim, but we get the gist. And is Charlie trying to repent for his recent sins by helping out Eko with the Church? Now that Bernard is on board....he's almost embarrassed of even trying to create the S.O.S. sign with the .....ummm...."BLACK ROCKS!" Was that just a play on words there or is there significance that they used rocks of the same name as Rousseau's ship? I'll vote for play on words. But someone said on the radio this morning...that when the camera panned out at the end to show the unfinished sign, the rocks were in the shape of a Frown :-( If I find a picture later, I'll post that too!
• Was anyone else looking for as much detail as they possibly could in the Rose/Bernard Flashback? I laughed listening to Preston and Steve this morning as they were talking about trying to read Rose's license plate in the first scene. I was trying to also! I think the only thing we got from that is that they met in New York. But we could've been able to tell that from them eating on the American Side of Niagara Falls a bit later when Bernard Proposed.
• So what else did we learn in the flashbacks? Well, there was that whole Faith Healer scene. And the guy's reaction seemed very similar (not as freaky) as Claire's psychic when he did her reading. The healer just washed his hands of the whole thing because the energy wasn't right. Some other kind of energy was needed to cure Rose. Magnetic Energy perhaps? ahh who knows? It's all fake anyway, right? lol
• Not exactly Bernard/Rose related but we can expect some backlash from the revelation that Jack now has a gun. Sawyer is quite aware that Charlie had a gun....but is not aware that he lost it to Ana Lucia who has now given the gun to Jack. And it looks like Jack's threat "when I need the guns, I'll get the guns" will come to reality in the next episode.

The Jack/Kate Reconciliation

• Yes, the moment everyone's been waiting for. The moment where Jack and Kate ALMOST get together! We've never seen that before! In all seriousness, this was a fun and interesting storyline tonight. We had the whole Return of the Jedi scene where Chewie (Kate) falls for the bait and puts our heroes into a bind. And of course this intentionally puts our lovelorn anti-couple in a forced intimate scenario where they had to shoot their way out of the trap. We've already discussed the validity to if the trap was indeed set by Rousseau. I don't think we have enough information at this time to know for sure what the deal is with the doll.
• We finally got a scene that helps answer the question....do any of these people talk about things going on? For instance, the finding of the Medical Hatch. Apparently, the ladies kept this discovery to themselves...as well as the finding of the theatrical outfits that the Others were wearing (or at least Zeke aka Mr. Friendly was sporting). This caused the inevitable argument between Kate and Jack where Jack has been ignoring Kate and didn't even tell her about their little Hatch Guest.
• It was revealed that Jack's theory about he and Kate going to the jungle to propose the trade was a safe move because both of them are NOT Wanted by The Others. And as Kate said...They are "damaged goods" This harkens back to the LIST that the Others Have and who they are trying to recruit. And we must not forget that baby Aaron is on that list and of great importance!
• Just for laughs...I thought it would be worth mentioning that the idiots roaming around the message boards have nicknamed the Jack/Kate potential couple in Bennifer fashion with the term "JATE" It's things like this that make me hate my obsession with pop culture!
• And of course what would be a JATE section of the blog without talking about the whole Kate :"I'm sorry I kissed you," Jack: "I'm Not" almost kissing scene that is cut off by a noise in the jungle? there we go...we discussed!
• Speaking of that noise in the jungle...for some reason I caught on immediately who our mystery runner was going to be. It just sounded like someone was RUNNING away from something and not TOWARDS our heroes. And what did our cliffhanger reveal? MICHAEL'S BACK! But is he back as the same Michael we've known in the past? I'm not so sure. Based on what we see of the next episode....Michael is telling them "I saw the others....they are unarmed....we can take them!!!" Guess who else is unarmed as he stumbled upon Jack and Kate? Yep, Michael did not seem to have his crazy rifle with him. Here's my guess on what's going to happen. The Others promised Michael that he would get Walt back if he helped set up a trap for his fellow survivors. We already know that all that Michael wants is his son back and that he will do anything to get him back. Little does Michael know that the others will NEVER give up Walt. Either way...it looks like May Sweeps is shaping up to be one exciting group of episodes!

The Musical Montage!

• Has anyone missed these? It's been so long since we ended an episode with the crazy music playing and the happy little scenes of people just chilling. This one was all about the couples.... Bernard/Rose happy to be together on the island, Sun/Jin excited about their eventual parenthood (except Sun's look of despair), Hurley/Libby and shadow puppets, Claire and Aaron, Sawyer and his main squeeze, Vincent! (yes we finally saw the dog again!), and then of course Jack and Kate and their almost kissing scene.
• Here's a crazy thing that some people have caught onto. And I have no patience to determine how accurate it is at this time. But has anyone noticed that most of the music that we hear on Lost are performed by people that have died? Not only died, but in plane crashes for some of them. Glenn Miller a few episodes back, Mama Cass in the Season premiere, I believe we heard John Denver in a flashback. Patsy Cline was another. Tonight's? Otis Reading's "These Arms Are Mine." I am intrigued by this and may dig into it a bit more. But I thought it would just be worth mentioning here.

One final crazy thing to mention folks (and I'm pretty certain THIS time!). There will be no NEW episode until Wednesday May 3rd. There are 5 episodes left to air including the 2-part finale on May 25th. Which means we have 4 weeks of new episodes left. Next week will be a rerun. April 26th will be a recap episode. "Lost" Season 2 Episode 18 - Dave

Am I starting to sound like a broken record when I say the word "WOW???" I mean, I did not expect anything from tonight's episode, but it may have been better than last week's mega fact revealing episode! It was OUTSTANDING! Oh, and I guess we can stop watching the show now because they revealed EVERYTHING! As predicted, yes, the whole time we've been watching it's all been a coma-induced dream that Hurley is trying to wake-up from! I TOLD YOU ALL! HAHAHA.... Okay...obviously I'm joking. But I did love how the producers have a very good sense of humor and address everyone's crazy theories in a tongue-and-cheek way on the show. But it may have been more than a joke. It may have been a red-herring to throw people off track of the REAL mystery behind the island. But even in an episode where they addressed the "it's all a dream" theory, they satisfied local Philly Listeners of Preston and Steve by addressing that there IS a Starbucks on the island (or there is going to be according to Charlie) on the SAME night that Kenny Rogers was on American Idol! (if you have no idea what I'm talking about, you need to start listening to P&S, wmmr.com or 93.3 wmmr in philly Thursdays after a new episode around 8:20/8:30) All of these things cannot be a coincidence! So there were a lot of crazy moments that we will try to capture below. And, I'm sure it will lead to some of my half-baked theories and further theories based on those theories which will ultimately be totally deemed ridiculous by a future episode. Eko's Pet Project
Alright, so we've seen Eko marking trees, asking Locke for a saw and now he's building something. Simultaneously, isn't Sayid building something too? And Charlie is present for both. A few things to take away from this little scene (aside from the Charlie Starbucks comment)

• When Charlie shows up, Eko dips his hands in water and makes the sign of a cross. Is this due to what he is building or because CHARLIE is pure evil? Or something else? Either way, with such a small scene there had to be some significance.
• Best bet on what he's building? A Chapel of course!!! He better get moving if he wants to get it done by the time the season's over!

Hatch Business

There were pretty much 2 scenes that dealt with following up with the Henry Gale saga that hit an all-time cliffhanger last week. Hey I'm glad they gave ANY screen time at all to it instead of making us sweat it out for another week while they gave Hurley the spotlight. And these brief scenes were absolutely chilling. I think I held my breath through them all. Here's what we found out:

• Locke has a hairline fracture and has to stay off his leg for 3-6 weeks? (I forget exact number). Obviously, there are direct parallels to his wheelchair days and he lashed out at Jack for even suggesting a wheel chair. But no fear! There were CRUTCHES on the plane! (I mean, how couldn't there be? There were TARPS in there too for all of their shelters!) My question is, is he really going to be stumbling around through the end of this season and most of next season? With the way time "FLIES" on this island...it seems that he would have to. Maybe they're really pushing for Terry O'Quinn to pick up that Emmy this year for his outstanding Limp Acting. If they don't get it this year...there's next year too!
• Henry (he told us to keep calling him Henry!) stirred the pot a bit more with Sayid coming very close to shooting and killing the man, had not Ana Lucia stepped in. That was some intense stuff. What we learned in this sequence is that Henry is DEFINITELY one of THEM. And he, like Zeke, referred to "HIM" who will KILL him if he told the castaways anything. Ana asked if it was "The Guy with the Beard" (don't get me started on the fact that Ana Lucia never saw him), and Henry said "He is nobody compared to HIM. WE are nobody!" If you remember, Zeke was a bit scared of this guy too. Is it too obvious to think they're referring to Alvar Hanso? (speaking of which, on the lost podcast the producers mentioned that www.thehansofoundation.org is currently under construction and is going to come back BETTER than ever! I'm sure it will tie into an upcoming episode If that link doesn't work it's also referenced on the right side of the blog under "links")
• The big shockers happened when Henry started answering my questions from last week. The best part about it is...we don't know if he's still lying or not! All that keeps coming back to me is Rousseau's comment that "He will lie......for a LONG time." Anyway, he tells Locke that he didn't push the button and he explained everything that happened when the clock went down to zero. And was crafty enough to explain it exactly as Locke and only Locke experienced it before. (Henry knows what Locke saw and heard because he heard it all from the closet). Henry suggested that NOTHING HAPPENS when you don't push the button. He suggested the whole place was a joke. And that the clock just reset and the MAGNET MOTOR sound just stopped. So this raises more questions. Is Henry trying to convince Locke that nothing happens so that he tries NOT to push the button so that something happens? This would imply that Henry DID crawl through the pipes to reset the clock and NOT activate the Blacklight for Locke to see the map. So then the other question is...is he telling the truth and adding value to Walt's Reverse Ghostly Commentary from the season premiere when he said backwards "Don't Push the Button, The Button is Bad!"? Ahh...my friends, did you really think I'd have an answer? Stay tuned for next week.
• But one thing that WAS shown was that Locke DID try and defend Henry in front of Jack as we predicted. Henry's primary goal seems to have been (and continue to be) to get inside everyone's head and cause conflict, primarily with Jack and Locke.
• Henry made some OTHER interesting comments to Locke about how GOD cannot see the island. He can see it just as well as the rest of the world can. This harkens back to when Michael, Sayid, Jin and Walt were on that raft at the end of last season and they saw that the island was HUGE yet uncharted on any map. So is the Island non-existent to the rest of the world? In the words of Charlie early on in the series..."Guys, Where are We???" Yes, along with Hurley's Dream explanation, the "God is not here" type conversation takes us into Purgatory terrain again. But come on....these are all red herrings! The producers are well aware that this type of explanation would ANNOY everyone who is addicted to the show. And THAT is why they keep shoving them in our face! Good times. On P&S they made reference to the Philadelphia Experiment where magnets were used to cloak a ship (I believe this is a true story of sorts?) and what happened is the ship was crossing into different dimensions thereby making them invisible to the known world. This whole concept of Interdimensions has been a common theory since the beginning of the series. But I still have to hold onto the concept that whatever the ultimate answer is....it will be explainable to the masses that aren't CERTIFIED NERDS like me!

The Hurley Show

Yeah, 90% of the episode was about Hurley and look at everything I talked about from the 10%? Very smart show indeed. So we finally uncovered why Hurley spent time in a Mental Institution, and we also got to see his budding relationship with Libby. Naturally, this sparked many of our interests as we've continually thought Libby was either a plant by the OTHERS, or a Clinical Psychologist at Hurley's Mental Institution (which would explain why he thought he knew her), or BOTH! Well the ultimate shocker was waiting for us, wasn't it? We'll get to that last!

• So we got more insight on the food drop. And I'm sure we are meant to look into the irony of when Hurley dumps his stash of food, there is more waiting for him. But Charlie ("Mr. Insightful this week") mentioned exactly what we came up with last week....that the lockdown occurred to keep people from knowing how the food arrived. I still am confused how 40 something survivors wouldn't hear a plane fly overhead and drop off the supplies. And naturally, we're meant to be confused as Sawyer referenced Fantasy Island and called Charlie, Tatoo by even asking if anyone saw "Da Plane!" Ahh good times.
• And we learned more about why Hurley is continuously fat. It's part of the guy's eternal problem. Didn't help that he was having visions of Kristen Davis's husband from Sex and the City who was convincing him to eat more. Ok, seriously. Who didn't catch on that Dave was a figment of Hurley's imagination. Once we saw him on the island wearing the same thing as he was wearing at the Basketball game (which nobody even acknowledged his existence) it was as clear as day. I've seen way too many M. Night Shayalaman movies to be fooled by this trick again. (Sorry if I just ruined the 6th Sense for you. You should've seen it by now!) But even after they revealed that Dave was an imaginary character 3/4ths of the way through the episode, they still made us question the validity of it as he tried to convince Hurley of how real he was. And you never know, maybe the producers WANT us to be proud of ourselves for figuring out that he was fake by revealing the fact that he ISN'T imaginary and these images were planted into Hurley's mind by the meds he was taking. Ahhh who knows. Funny how DAVE didn't start showing up again until now...when Libby is on the same side of the island and spending time with Hurley, isn't it? Ahh...the wheels are turning..sorry folks!
• Okay, so Hurley's doctor is the Senator from the X-Men movies. This is kinda a small role for him wouldn't you say? He has to be involved more than in these little scenes. I'm still an advocate that there have been people watching our castaways from early on....plotting to bring them to this island for the experiment. If it's not the Doc, then maybe it was LIBBY! (or both!) we're not there yet! hold on!
• Anyone notice the picture behind Hurley in the doctor's office? Yup, it's AN island! Don't know if this is just a little joke or if it holds any significance. I'm sure believers of the DREAM THEORY will claim that this is why Hurley is dreaming of being on an island. I'd lean towards the fact that our Doctor is in on the plot! But that's just how my ULTIMATE THEORY is shaping up. It's all a big conspiracy! Who's with me??
  
• So they love throwing numbers at us, right? the Deck that hurley collapsed was built for 8 people (NUMBER!) but had 23 people on it (ZING!). And 2 died...woaaaa...2? That's not a number! lol
• What else. How about that sensual scene where Hurley ate the peanut butter off of the leaf? Was that nasty or what? This guy definitely has a binge eating problem. I'm glad that they're turning the weight thing into part of the show's deep mythology instead of it just being a running gag.
• Hurley beat up Sawyer and screamed every nickname that the redneck ever gave him! That was a good time. And as Preston asked this morning, who HASN'T punched Sawyer yet? That's a damn good question. But Hurley was looking for his crazy meds. I'm still confused to why this hasn't been an issue until recently. And that's where Libby comes in!
• Yes, the Libby/Hurley relationship arc is starting to heat up. And who hasn't been waiting for this? It's on the lines of the Ross/Rachel rollercoaster the way they've been hyping it! Okay, so I'm kidding. I think we've seen glimpses of the two hanging out doing laundry or talking together ever since Hurley told Charlie he was going to make a move. But these scenes were enough to make us ponder the significance of Libby's past. And boy I hope we get a flashback. And if we don't get a Libby flashback, then I will STILL be convinced that she is ONE OF THEM too! But yes....Libby and Hurley have crossed into KISSING TERRITORY as she used her "Clinical Psychology" expertise to ween Hurley from the edge of the cliff and explain to him that "I AM REAL!!!" But there's one little tiny teeny thing that Libby didn't mention.
• SHE'S A NUTJOB!!!!!! Yep, the final scene as we see Senator X-men guy taking a picture of Hurley and his non-existent buddy Dave.....there's LIBBY! And she's not a doctor as we expected...no she's a patient! And Boy did she look crazy! As the LOST title BOOMED onto the screen...I think I let out a loud "GOD I LOVE THIS SHOW!!!" I mean, for sure, I thought we'd see Libby in the institution...but never in a million years did I think she was a patient! So, in the great tradition of Lost questions, I must ask "WHAT DOES IT MEAN???" Well, if I go with my theory that she is "ONE OF THEM" Then we can look back at earlier episodes where Kate found theatrical glue for Zeke's beard and his hat and all that wonderful stuff. If they are truly ACTORS and ACTRESSES...she could be pretending to be crazy to keep tabs on Hurley or Leonard (the numbers guy)....they all could be in it together with the Doctor to ensure Hurley gets on that island and is certifiably fat and crazy! Or we could just go the angle that LIBBY is truly crazy and is impersonating a Clinical Psychologist on the island. This would make sense with all the shady looks she's given anytime someone has asked her what she does for a living. But then how does this explain her getting Claire to have visions of what happened in her 2 week getaway with Ethan? Ahh lots of stuff to ponder....and I think we should do just that.

So another great episode last night...and it looks like we continue with the new episodes next week as JACK goes crazy and runs into the jungle looking for Zeke. Anyone want to put money down that we have our 3rd Jack Flashback of the season next week? I did the math last night and every main star on the show has had a flashback this season......unless you count LIBBY as a Main Star. We've had our traditional multiple Jack and Locke flashbacks and got a 2nd helping of Hurley this year. I'd assume we need another Kate and Sawyer before the season's end. And I'm still holding onto hope that we get to see an episode that deals with ISLAND LIFE PRE-CRASH....with the OTHERS and Desmond and the whole bunch! The producers hinted at it....and I'm holding them to their word!

"Lost" Season 2 Episode 17 - Lockdown

No, fellow losties, it's no coincidence that this episode was called "LOCK" Down. For as we did see an actual lockdown in the Hatch, we coincidedly saw "LOCKE" go down in several ways. In the physical sense, we saw him trapped under the Blast door, and in the psychological sense we saw him DOWN on himself for having fear of abandonment. Yes, saw a whole new side to John Locke tonight. And we'll get to that in a bit. But let me get the routine comments out of the way first. "WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!" God, does anyone love this show as much as me? I mean, I think I can find enjoyment in the worst episodes out there! (hello? Fire + Water? I'm talking about you!) But this was far from the worst episodes. It may have been one of the most suspensful and fact revealing episodes to date in Lost. Yes, it may seem like we learned nothing tonight at first glance. But we learned a WHOLE BUNCH! And naturally, with every answered question, we opened up a few more in each of their places. The beauty of the writing strategy behind our favorite show. So, I have tons of goodies (some interesting, some ridiculous) to get into. And I'm sure some of you already researched and found them yourself. Locke Flashback:

• Okay first and foremost we finally saw how Helen (aka Peggy Bundy) leaves John Locke. This adds a bit more to the first flashback we see of Locke (in season 1) when he's talking to a person over the phone that he calls Helen (thought to be a "pay per minute type of lady that lets the crazy guy call her Helen"). John has got some serious abandonment issues that he's dealing with which may be what's leading him to look for more answers in life. Notice how when "HENRY" (if we can call him that) returns to the scene of the crime after "Supposedly" entering in the numbers; all that Locke cares about is that he didn't leave him. Can you blame him for having issues? His Dad used him for a Kidney and for transferring money to him so that he could start a new life after faking his death. And then when John tried to talk to the guy, he had an Oceanic Flight to catch.
• Yeah, the 2 planes that flew by were Oceanic flights. I doubt there is much significance...kinda like the stuffed Polar Bear that Michael bought for Walt in Michael's flashback this season. They just like to throw little stuff like that in our face.
  
• But what IS worth noting is the lady that Locke was talking to as he was doing his Home Inspector Job (Hmm, didn't he work for a Box Company prior to the crash?). Yep....you guessed it....it's Sayid's love of a lifetime - NADIA. And I think the key thing we found out in this exchange is that she is NOT married.
  
• Also, Locke's starting to bald more from his previous flashbacks. But he does look a LOT older on the island doesn't he? So when did all this stuff take place?
• So Locke's "Dad" conned a family out of $700,000. Can we assume that this is SAWYER's family? (which would definitely date this flasback quite a few years since Sawyer was a kid when his Dad killed his wife then shot himself) There were rumors before that Locke and Sawyer might be related after Locke knew Sawyer's real name, "James Ford" but we got nothing to tie this together by finding out Locke's Dad's name is Anthony Cooper (unless it's another alias). But a clean way to tie it together would be if Locke's "DAD" is the conman Sawyer was/is looking for. And, hmmm maybe if he DID catch an Oceanic flight out of LA, maybe HE's on the island too! (okay..now I'm just getting crazy!)
• I looked this one up, don't know the significance. When Helen sees Locke's Dad she asks "Are you Him?" remember this from anywhere? Yep, Desmond asked Locke the same question in the hatch.
• When Locke went to retrieve the money - the "Lock"box in bank was 1516 (15, 16 are 2 of the numbers ....we all know that by now!)

Jack/Sawyer Poker Game

"Should I go get a ruler?" Good one Kate! Yes, the testosterone battle between Jack and Sawyer continued, but this time Jack had other things on his mind. And with his best poker face he hustled Sawyer out of the medical supplies. We did start to find out that Jack has been to some crazy locations in his life where he learned how to play poker, and may have gotten his crazy tatoo (which is Matthew Fox's tatoo that we were told would eventually play significance in Lost). Maybe someone can help me out and remind me where exactly Jack said he had been. All I remember is that Sawyer got a "burning sensation" from a visit to the hole of America, Tallahassee.

Hatch/Beacon/Henry Business

All storylines tonight seemed to merge together by the end of the episode. That being the Search party of Sayid, Charlie, and Ana Lucia; Jack running into Kate while heading back to the Hatch after this poker game; and the Locke/Henry antics in the hatch during the "LOCKDOWN" I know, this is the stuff that really has our heads spinning and that's why I saved it for the last subject. Let's see if we can make some sense of everything.

• So our resident prisoner "Henry Gale" made a last strategic move to get John Locke on his side prior to the truth being uncovered. Locke, with all of his abandonment issues, now seems to have a debt to Henry for not leaving him when he was stuck under the blast door. It'll be interesting to see how Locke reacts to the news that this guy isn't even "Henry Gale"
• Okay, so the blast doors closed in the hatch. Why on earth did that happen? There was a countdown that came on the speakers and then BOOM....Locke was "LOCKED" in the hatch. Naturally, his first concern was getting to the numbers. Which got him into the predicament of getting his legs crushed. Ever notice how scared Locke gets when he fears not being able to get to the computer to enter the numbers? It's almost like he's scared of upsetting the powers that be. He believes that more answers will come if he keeps pushing that button. That is HIS job until he is told otherwise.
• I've talked to some and heard on P&S this morning that perhaps the LOCKDOWN procedure was to lock the Hatch residents in the Hatch as Supplies were dropped off. Maybe so they couldn't see "HOW" the supplies were dropped off? All we saw was a parachute and a bunch of Dharma food and a Beacon. Was this really a food drop-off from a plane? I just don't think we have enough information. But the closing of the blast doors seems to be an independent function from the entering of the numbers and it seemed to coincide with this food showing up.
• Another mystery is if Henry even entered the numbers which led to the blacklight display of the Bunkers on the Island. Maybe this was just "The Others" messing with Locke one more time to give him one more vision. Or...based on the information on the Map....maybe Desmond wrote this up after years of investigating the island and punching in the numbers? He couldn't have wandered too far to learn about the other hatches if he had to punch in #'s every 108 minutes.

• Wow...you mapped out yet? Lot of information to digest on there. But at a high level, there is the Swan Station (occupied by our fellow survivors), the Arrow Station (where the Tailies were hanging out), the Medical Station (discovered a couple episodes ago), and now we can make out the FLAME STATION. Hmm, wonder what happens there? And of course we have that big question mark in the middle with some 3 dimensional drawing surrounding it. Is this what's beyond the concrete wall in the Swan Hatch that is causing the magnetic pull? And did Desmond use this map to figure out where he was going to run towards when he ditched Jack and Locke in the hatch? And again, did this map display because of the Clock going to 0 or because of the lockdown, or because SOMEONE (maybe fake Henry???) activated it knowing that Locke was the only one that would see it? All interesting questions....and more answers to follow (hopefully this season! lol)
• Just remembered, notice how Fake Henry knew the numbers very quickly when Locke told them to him. I really don't think "Fake Henry" had enough time to climb through the grate and punch the numbers into that computer. I think he did something else instead that activated the blacklight map. This would indicate that nothing happens with the clock runs to 0. But who knows?
• So besides all the Map craziness we also finally found house about "Henry Gale." His aliby almost checked out (they found the Smiley Face Balloon and a Grave), but detail oriented Sayid dug up his "wife's" grave and found the REAL HENRY GALE buried there. Note that his address is "815" Walnut Ridge and that his zip code adds up to 23. And btw...I was a big dork and looked up the address on Google Maps...doesn't exist, but the TOWN Does...and in that town there is a GALE Road! What does this mean? I'm going to guess ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!
  

Okay, I've gone nuts with the details this week and did so much theorizing that probably none of this makes sense. But cut me some slack...this took me a lot of time! lol. We're inching closer and closer to that Season Finale and bringing the conflict with "The Others" to a whole new plateau of significance. And this episode did a fantastic job of continuing to set that stage. Looks like next week will be a new episode again. Not sure if you read the comments on the previous Blog but I noted the Season Finale will be May 24th. Based on this information, we can probably assume we'll have 2 more weeks of reruns between now and the finale. Let's go ahead and guess that they're going to happen April 12th and 19th! We'll know soon enough!

"Lost" Season 2 Episode 16 - The Whole Truth

Okay okay. Crazy early work meetings. Dont they know I have to write a Lost Recap today? And what is up with Preston and Steve taking a vacation this week? Maybe they thought the show was on hiatus until April too and scheduled their vacation time around it. They probably are reading this blog and got confused! lol. Well I hope everyone else didn't get thrown off by my last blog and forget to tune into another fantastic outing for Lost last night. I apologize once again for my misinformation. But I CAN guarantee there is a new episode NEXT week too! I cannot, however, let you know about April 5th just yet. I'm guessing rerun though. But CHECK your TV GUIDES before taking my word for it! (until I become a more reliable source).

Okay, anyway, so last night's episode seemed a little uneventful in terms of ISLAND MYTHOLOGY, but they're continuing to set up a huge conflict for the season's end. And, it's always great to see the Sun and Jin flashback episodes. It just goes to show how engaging this show is that their fanbase is willing to read for the majority of the episode. It also eliminates any potential reading-challenged viewers. Sorry Fantasia!!!! (whoops..wrong blog).

Ok, so since there's not many tidbits to discuss today, I'm going to break this write-up into 4 sections: The Sun/Jin Saga, The High Comedy Factor, the Henry Gale Drama, and Easter Eggs. Here we go:

Sun/Jin

Ok, so Sun is two-timing her Husband!! Well, not exactly. But now we know who she learned English from. It's that crazy bald blind date guy from the flashback earlier this season. And he definitely was showing an additional interest than just teaching her the American Way. Here's a crazy question? How did Sun go from struggling to say something in English in the 1st flashback segment to speaking fluently by the last flashback? Are we meant to think that much time passed during the episode flashback sequence? I'll just take a guess with yes. But they were talking about Jin's Bloody Hand massacre in the 1st sequence, which I always believed wasn't long before she decided to flee to America. So...I'm a little confused on the timeline there. Barry Baldy (I don't remember his name) also told Sun she's been speaking fluently for 2 months at the end.

Okay, so we also are informed that Jin thinks Sun can't have children, and Sun thinks Jin can't procreate. Now we are meant to think that this is because it would lead to problems if someone working for Sun's father was informed that HE was the problem. I think there's potentially a lot more going on here. And it's how I've come up with 2 possible theories:

1. Sun DID cheat on Jin with Baldy and it's HIS child she's pregnant with. The look on Sun's face when she told Jin that she never has been unfaithful was mildly unsettling. She has more that she kept from him but couldn't bring herself to tell Jin "The Whole Truth" as Jack suggested she do. If Baldy is the Dad this could lead to many crazy things. There's always been a long-running rumor ever since the Orientation Video that some of the financial backers of Dharma could be from Korean descent. And theory goes on to connect Dharma to Sun's Korean Mobster father. There was a potential linking in last night's episode that would support the theory which we'll get to a bit later. But if this is true, who is to say that BALDY, who was originally fixed up with Sun on the blind date by Sun's Father (I think), doesn't work for Dharma himself? Is there a chance we could see him on the island in the future? I'd say it's a definite possibility. Whatever the case, we need another Sun flashback to unfold the missing pieces of the puzzle. The problem this theory presents is that Sun would have to have been pregnant since before the crash. Now only 2 months and change have passed, but she was just starting to show symptoms of being pregnant on the island in this episode. (But I typed up this beautiful theory, so I'm going to leave it!)
2. Sun didn't cheat on Jin and in fact they were BOTH lied to. But each of them think it's the other person's fault that they can't have children. With this theory we can still link back to Dharma with crazy Baldy, and Daddy, but now we can include the Doctor that hunted Sun down to break the news to her that it was JIN who's got no mojo. But if this theory pans out, then we start to get back into the Mind games that are being played with our fellow survivors. And it reminded me of a theory I came up with after the Season Premiere this season with crazy Desmond and Jack performing a "MIRACLE" on his future wife Sarah. There have been several other miracles now haven't there? Sun is pregnant, Jack saved his wife from certain paralysis, and here it comes.....LOCKE recovered from paralysis upon landing on the island. Anyone think that Locke may have never been paralyzed either but was under the impression that he was? That was a loose theory that I thought about 16 episodes ago, and if this Sun theory #2 pans out, then I would be more convinced than ever. Speaking of Desmond, we now know where he's been hiding all of this time. He's been impersonating some German Spy on 24!

Amazing how I can write that much about an episode that gave us very little isn't it? Well we're not even halfway finished yet!

The High Comedy Factor

Let's lighten up this blog to talk about some comedians on the show.

• Locke: Shaving with Jack in the shower provided tons of comedy in last night's episode. And then talking about the possibility of informing Ana Lucia about the crazy Wizard of Oz Hatch Guy. Jack "I'll talk to her" Locke "Already Did! ..... She's in there now!" Outstanding! Love how these 2 are just so into their mind games with each other that they're losing track of what's really going on, on the island.
• Charlie: With the whole gun thing with Ana Lucia and Sayid. And also with the whole "are you talking about the guy in the hatch?" conversation with Ana Lucia. I've missed light-hearted Charlie and this was a nice change to see. But we shouldn't think for one second that he's in the clear for his past actions just yet. Afterall, he DOES have a gun. Which we weren't aware of until today. Which any smart person on the island should figure out that he helped out Sawyer to steal the guns. But...Jack and Locke are too busy one-upping each other to even care.
• Hurley: Just the fact that he said, "Later Dude" to Sun had me going. But we now know that it's not just Ranch Dressing and Peanut Butter that Hurley's hiding in his stash. He has some fresh UN-MELTED Dharma Candy Bars too. Good times.

The Henry Gale Experiment

Sounds like a reject band from the 80's doesn't it? Well, we already got a little into the whole Jack/Locke leadership feud that is causing disarray amongst the survivors. This has caused the new Trio of Ana Lucia, Sayid, and Charlie to form a search party for the Balloon from OZ that that apparently is a HAPPY BALLOON complete with a smiley face. Awesome. This adventure led to probably the best scene of the night when Ana Lucia apologized to Sayid for killing Shannon. We found out that he wasn't angry at Ana, but at the OTHERS. For if it wasn't for Fear of them, Shannon wouldn't be hanging out with Boone in the afterlife, which coincidentally is NOT on the crazy Island! And was it just me or was Ana Lucia actually likeable last night? I think this is all part of the show's design. We're continually getting more frustrated with Jack and Locke and now are leaning towards rooting for Ana Lucia to succeed in her quest.

Well Gale, while eating Dharma Cereal (where did the cereal come from? I thought they ATE everything that Hurley isn't hiding!) he started to entertain the idea that maybe he IS who they say he might be. And that he may have drawn a map that leads to the certain capture of our 3 new heroes; which would turn them into a bargaining chip for Henry's return to "The Others." I don't think they would go through all of this hinting and evil glares from Henry if he wasn't up to no good. Then again, he may just be bitter about his capture and is intentionally trying to be complicated. But from the previews for next week it DOES look like they're going to find that balloon. But that means nothing. This could all be a setup by the OTHERS, and we'd be ignorant NOT to think that. This whole SEASON has been about them and with 7 episodes left, it's gotta be leading somewhere juicy!

Easter Eggs
Like I said, there's not many that I'm aware of, but we can note the ones that there were! One was a dooooozy!

• The Pregnancy Test - said something to the effect of "WIDMORE LABS PREGNANCY TEST" If you recall from earlier blogs, that in the ABC Lost Podcast they told us we were meant to see signage on the building shown during Charlie's flashback that said "WIDMORE CONSTRUCTION." We were also told this name may hold something in the regard of DHARMA significance. So, if that's the case, then the question becomes Whose pregnancy test was it and where did they get it? I'm going to say the test WAS Sun's. I mean, why would she even ask Sawyer if he had one if she didn't know there WAS one to look for. So if that's the case is WIDMORE a company that is a MOB Front for her father? That would be a convenient linking wouldn't it? Well, if we were trying to Link Daddy to Dharma. But why would Sun even be flying with a pregnancy test? Maybe she thought she might be pregnant because she cheated on Jin with Baldy? Again, there's more information that needs to be uncovered. Also, I wonder if WIDMORE CONSTRUCTION is a company that Michael ever worked for when he was in the construction profession.
• Sawyer's Book - Judy Blume's one and only "Are you there God? It's me Margaret" Your guess is as good as mine for what the point of him reading that book is. I would've preferred Tales of the 4th Grade Nothing or Superfudge. But I had to share the high comedy plot synopsis from Amazon.com I seriously couldn't stop laughing at the concept of Sawyer reading this book:
  "If anyone tried to determine the most common rite of passage for preteen girls in North America, a girl's first reading of Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret would rank near the top of the list. Judy Blume and her character Margaret Simon were the first to say out loud (and in a book even) that it is normal for girls to wonder when they are ever going to fill out their training bras. Puberty is a curious and annoying time. Girls' bodies begin to do freakish things--or, as in Margaret's case, they don't do freakish things nearly as fast as girls wish they would. Adolescents are often so relieved to discover that someone understands their body-angst that they miss one of the book's deeper explorations: a young person's relationship with God. Margaret has a very private relationship with God, and it's only after she moves to New Jersey and hangs out with a new friend that she discovers that it might be weird to talk to God without a priest or a rabbi to mediate. Margaret just wants to fit in! Who is God, and where is He when she needs Him? She begins to look into the cups of her training bra for answers ... " I mean seriously....TRAINING BRA? lol....my God....we have some comedians on the Lost Writing Staff!
• The map was drawn on the back of the cover page of the book Locke gave to Gale to read Dostoevsky's "the Brothers Karamazov" Significance? Only thing I can come up with is that it was the most convenient piece of paper that he could find and I'll leave it at that! lol

Sorry everyone, I know in my last blog I had noted that there were no new episodes until April. I apologize. I got my reference from www.tv.com which is usually pretty good with the schedule. It lists the "airdate' for every episode of every show. The next Lost episode was listed as April. There may have been a reschedule. So we're getting 2 in March. Which means probably a couple reruns in April too. So, I hope no one takes these blogs as bible and forget to watch these!

"Lost" Season 2 Episode 15 - Maternity Leave

Ok, so I've pretty much said this at the beginning of each recap. "WOW!!" But one wow just doesn't cut it for this episode. WOW WOW!! Why is it that the Claire episodes rank among the best episodes ever? Outstanding stuff. And well, with every really good episode, comes weeks and weeks to digest the information. That's right kids, no new episode until April! But think about it...that means we're sailing with no breaks to the finale when it comes back! Okay, much to cover in this recaps so I'll just get started. In case for some odd reason you're reading this without having watched the episode. Man, I don't even know where to start....there's so much! Well let's just dive in! Something we have not yet seen on Lost before is that a character flashback goes back to a previous experience on the island. Claire slowly regained her memory of the missing 2 weeks from her vacation on the lovely island resort. What did we learn?

• Ethan is more of a psycho than we thought! Has anyone missed Tom Cruise's cousin being on the show? I sure did! Was great to revisit his character. He opened up to Claire about her having to die to save the baby. And how he was going to miss her. Of course this was right after he drugged her with some Dharma Punch. That dude is just flat out psychotic! But he did keep revisiting the concept of "We're Good people" They were obviously trying to earn Claire's trust of leaving the baby. Not sure why...since they were going to kill her anyway.
• The Lost producers refer to him as "Mr. Friendly," Sawyer and fans refer to him as Zeke. But now what do we call him? Gordon's Fisherman Impersonator? The dude is putting on a disguise for our fellow survivors. Kate found Zeke's hidden stash of his infamous Hat, the beard, and the "Theatrical Glue" So....anyone want to revisit the TRUMAN SHOW theory? Yeah, me either...but it's always fun to think that they're all on a Live TV show. If that was the answer to the mystery...I think I'd be more upset than if it was Purgatory! So what's the logical conclusion then? Maybe Zeke has run into our survivors PRIOR to Island life. And he needs to disguise himself so he isn't recognized. He also made a reference to "HIM not being happy" common guesses are that he was referring to Alvar Hanso.....since even Zeke himself has quoted him before as a GREAT MAN. But, that just seems too easy. Looks like someone higher up is in charge on this island? Who else could it be? Locke's "DAD"? Sun's DAD (The Korean linking in the Dharma video)? Hell, it could even be JACK's Dad for all we know! I'm not convinced he's dead (corpse and all)! Yes, I'm obsessed with it being a character's dad. It could be someone else.
• So, while Ethan was pretending to be a doctor (along with Zeke)....(or maybe he IS a doctor..who knows)....Ethan injected the Baby with some kind of Vaccine. We have confirmation that the vaccine is the same one that Desmond was injecting himself with. It seems like this disease is something that eventually is going to start taking victims on the island. You know the one that causes Quarantine to be written on the inside of the HATCHES?
• yep..I said Hatches. I totally forgot to mention we have a new Hatch! A new Dharma station with the medical symbol. I mean, we already knew from the previews, but it was still exciting. And this puppy comes complete with a BABY ROOM! There's tons of stuff to play with and there's that crazy mobile of spinning oceanic planes. Anyone notice the song playing? It was "Catch a Falling Star and Put it in Your Pocket" Anyone know the significance of this song? I suggest we all revisit season 1 and the Claire flashback episode "Raised by Another" hmmmmm Raised by AN OTHER? niiiiice. But anyway, my point being that Claire, while in the lawyer's office with the adopting parents, asks the new parents to sing to the baby "Catch A Falling Star" when putting the baby to sleep. This raises many questions. Was the lawyer one of the OTHERS? Were the adopted parents in on the plan? And more importantly, that crazy Psychic (you know the Russian President on 24) that KNEW the plane was going to crash put Claire on it! Maybe he was included in the Truman Show script! (just kidding!) But seriously, maybe there is more to the psychic than we originally thought.
• Also in the baby room were more methods of transportation....TRAINS (like the mechanical sound that accompanies the smoke monster), Boats (like Walt was taken on)....and of course the Planes. All speculation on the P&S blogs.
• Another comment about our new Hatch. Apparently there was a sign on one of the doors in the hallway that clearly said "ESCAPE HATCH" but this sign was only there during the flashbacks. In the present day, there was no sign. hmmmmm
• We also finally met Alex. And she's not such a bad girl! She saved Claire right before she was going to be chopped up to get the baby out of her! Way to go Alex. We also found out Rousseau isn't up to anything fishy (for now at least) and actually was trying to save Claire....we finally saw the entire scratching of the arms scene.....and Rousseau knocked Claire out (who was still drugged)...and carried her back to where Locke and Boone found her. Good stuff.
• Jury's still out with Libby. I'm still not convinced she's one of the survivor's and not a Plant from the Others. She's always acting so shady! But we did catch her talking to Hurley once again. There has to be a good story coming up there (in flashbacks...and/or on the island!)
• Oh, and we find out that Jack was right about Aaron, he didn't have anything more than a cold or something....and finally recovered. But at least Claire went all Mom crazy anyway and went looking for answers!
• Speaking of Jack, all this talk and we still haven't even touched on Jack, Locke and their little prisoner! Listening to the podcast they explained the concept of the prisoner in the hatch. We are not meant to know if Henry is an OTHER or Not. And it doesn't really matter on the surface. What the situation brings is that he is an unknown person on the island...and there are roughly 40 something people trying to co-exist in a community. But there is still no Social Structure and no LAWS on this island. Kinda like the start of Deadwood! (I know..I'm the only one that watches!) So, it raises a lot of questions on how to treat newcomers to their group? And how far is too far in interrogation? Well, based on what we've seen of Henry, he's either really bitter and trying to cause problems, or he is intentionally there to cause problems. And he is going to spark some major controversy between Jack and Locke. Back to the social structure.....Henry questioned why Locke let Jack call all the shots. Locke says that they make decisions together. Henry didn't see it that way....which caused Locke to go all psycho and break plates that they served fruit mush on. Major conflict is brewing!
• There was also the whole debate about Hemingway and Dostoevsky and their two different styles. I'm not going to say I understood any of it besides the fact that Henry was looking to cause conflict between Jack and Locke. • Okay....and what is up with EKO??? He marks up these trees and tells Charlie that "these are the ones I like" (I guess they didn't burn down???).....and then he starts chopping them down? And he needed a saw. What's he making? Firewood or something else? Then of course he went all crazy with meeting Henry and pulled a knife out and apologized to Henry. (because he needed to tell someone? Is that so? There must be more to it) But I guess he was growing those 2 little goatee extensions as a penance for killing the two men. And then he chopped them off with the knife. Gotta love crazy Eko.
• Oh...you may want to go have a look at a video about the Dharma Initiative http://www.prestonandsteve.com/video/144.wmv (FYI, this link should bring your media player right up) I think it's pretty bogus, but it looks authentic until they start showing people at the end. But someone went to great lengths to make it. So check it out!

By my math, there are 9 episodes left, with probably a 2 hour finale (which counts as 2 episodes).....so 8 weeks of episodes should take us straight from April to the Final episode. That sounds like an offer too good to pass up! It's funny that every show since the invention of Television has gone through a 24 or 22 episode cycle from September to May, but people just seem to notice all of the breaks more with LOST than any other show! But that's because it's such gripping television! Well LostHeads....see you in about 4 weeks!

"Lost" Season 2 Episode 14 - One of Them

Is it me...or do people cringe when the islanders talk about the OTHERS in in the non-plural form? Sayid "He's an OTHER!" oh my.... Why couldn't he just say what they labeled the episode? He's One of Them!!! Well, it's still funny from an unintentional comedic standpoint, so that's a plus! Nitpicky, am I? You bet! But who isn't with America's new National Past-time? POST LOST DAY ANALYSIS. And what a game it is! Well, since I'm getting a late start today, I've already been able to share some of my wisdom to people off the blog and amazingly they hadn't heard about some of this stuff yet. So...hopefully, this will be helpful to all! And maybe someone out there can actually translate those damn heiroglyphic symbols! I've heard everything from KATEDIE to SWAN (There's a little margin of error on the # of characters there!) Well....here we go folks. Let's dive into another faannnnntastic episode:

• Okay...so People are getting fired up with Jack. He's being a whiny little B-----. Well Wouldn't you if people were plotting stuff against your back? That's 2 episodes in a row where Locke and someone else are conspiring against him. Then again, Jack is building an army behind everyone's back too....so who is he to talk? Sounds like there are some big inner conflicts brewing within the Fuselage Survivors that is bound to blow up. I thought this was going to happen last year when Locke played a part in Boone's death. Should've known it would take a whole other season to actually develop!
• So who is Henry Gale? Well, anyone remember the story of The Wizard of Oz where Dorothy Gale is swept away to the magical land of Oz? She had an Uncle Henry, and to my recollection, he did some Balloon traveling himself! And one part I don't recall is if the people in Dorothy's life (In Kansas) actually play the roles of the characters in OZ. I'm pretty sure I remember the actor who played Uncle Henry also portrayed the WIZARD in Oz. And the wizard also sends Dorothy back in a balloon. So...this is a good indicator that our boy Henry on the island is totally lying! Not to mention he couldn't recall where he buried his wife. But I gotta say, he was a convincing liar up to then! And Rousseau said it would take a lot to crack him.
• And what is up with Rousseau? Do we think that she is with THE OTHERS and the whole capturing of Henry was a setup? She was acting quite shady about the whole thing. Then again....I don't know if part of a setup would be to shoot an arrow through someone!
• Let's take a break from the Hatch business. So we finally know how Hurley has remained pleasantly plump. He has a hidden stash of Dharma food! So what was his secret before Season 2? Well he had told Arzt it was going to take awhile for him to lose the weight because of how heavy he is. Looks like the producers covered every angle! So here's a question....can a tub of ranch dressing really keep people fat? I need to rewatch to see what else he had hidden there. But At least we know he's good for 7 years!
• Speaking of Hurley, we were reminded that Sawyer is a bad man...or wants people to hate him...as he disregarded Hurley's option to send the loud tree frog to another location on the island. Instead Sawyer squishes it to death and offers it to Hurley to eat with his Ranch Dressing Good times.! New Nickname Alert.....Sawyer calls Hurley BARBAR and is quickly corrected that it is Babar! outstanding!
• I had heard on P&S that someone said there was a Dharma logo on the tree frog. I seriously doubt it, I'll have to rewatch later.
• Okay...so was anyone else looking at Military Officer #1 and scratching their head as he talked to Sayid about being a translator? I couldn't quite place him...but I knew I had seen this guy in some form of a show before. Turns out it WAS Lost...and I didn't recognize him fully until he whipped out that picture of Kate at the end. Yep...it's Kate's Foster Father (whom Kate thought was her Dad for the longest time). I'm still kicking myself for not catching on sooner. We're seeing a lot of backstories crossing over now between our fellow survivors. Makes things a whole lot more interesting in the present day. • Okay, so let's get into the symbols that showed up on the Dharma Clock. Before We get to the symbols...did anyone hear the crazy machinery sound that accompanied it? I think we know that something will DEFINITELY happen when no action is taken. And, well...something may have already happened because Locke didn't make it in time. And, well Locke was not rushing to tell anyone about it. So what was that noise? The Electro Magnet? the Blast Doors getting ready to close? Something behind that concrete wall? Who knows...but I want the clock to run out again to find out! So for anyone that doesn't remember the symbols...it is confirmed that they are Egyptian Heiroglyphics. Here they are:
  
  
  That first symbol isn't very clear, but we do have a potential translation to what it might mean. I'm not going to argue with it because I don't know how to translate heiroglyphics!
  
  
  No idea, but it can't be good news either way! Any input that you guys have found here would be welcome! All I know is....it was AWESOME when it happened!
• Moving on - Sayid and Charlie had a little conversation at the end stating that Jack and others had forgotten that Charlie and Claire were kidnapped by Ethan. Charlie was strangled and almost died.....Claire doesn't even remember 2 weeks of her life on the island. More internal conflicts.....and a war is brewing. But who is the war with? The Others? Or with Themselves? Ahhhh beautifully written show.

So this episode was mostly a tease of things to come. From the producer's insight about the episode on the podcast, this sets up the NEXT CHAPTER of Life on the island and really sets events in motion that will take us through then next 4-5 episodes.....and even the entire future of the show. We see that the next episode (in 2 weeks??) we will find out what happened in the days when Claire was missing. Could this mean the return of ETHAN? yeah...I'd say so.
Okay, I'm not big on spoilers, but these I found informative. I'm going to post them in black text. You can choose to highlight and read at your own discression. Some things that we will find out by the end of the season, or won't find out until future seasons:

• Someone sent me a spoiler that we won't find out about Michael and Walt until Season 3. I Do not know the source of this rumor
• We WILL find out why the Plane crashed by the end of Season 2.
• We WILL see Desmond again in Season 2.

I thought I had more, but I think that's it. So...I guess the 2 hour Idol and the olympics are scaring Lost into not airing an episode. Very rare that a network would not air as many episodes as they can during February Sweeps. But whatever the case, we're 2 weeks away from finding out about Claire...and maybe more about Henry. "Lost" Season 2 Episode 13 - The Long Con

Hello Losties! Another outstanding episode last night...and we're gonna get to it in a sec. First here is the ABC Recap in case you want to catch up on what you missed:

So, the episode was titled "The Long Con" and well folks, that's exactly what we got to see. I don't think anyone should've been surprised in the flashback that Sawyer was ultimately trying to get the money from the girl. What may have shocked everyone was that he was behind the whole uproar on the island. I have to admit...I was a little slow on it. I figured it was someone within the group and too obvious to be Ana Lucia, but for some idiotic reason I didn't think about the episode title and assume that we'd see Sawyer working what he does best (no..not his looks ladies) and screwing over the world for his personal benefit. Well, I promised no episode walk-throughs, so let's see how this thing evolves as I just dive into the fun stuff to point out from this episode:

• So, did anyone catch Kate's Mom serving Sawyer in the diner? Once I saw that hand hit the table with the food, I knew it had to be her. Granted, I did know in advance that there would be some character "crossover" in the episode from the Lost podcast, but I was still quite impressed with myself for catching it!
• Sayid and Hurley added some nice comic relief and some more tidbits for the mythology this week. We had the "Lime in the Coconut" joke and then Hurley stereotyping Sayid as not an Iraqi...no no....as a guy that likes gadgets! Hurley tries to cheer him up with the 2-way Radio that the Tailies talked to Boone with. (Yes..on the "Norwegian Plane!" Hurley's awesome!!!)
• Long story short, Sayid gets it to pick up a signal that plays some Glenn Miller music.... Apparently the radio station letters "WXR" - were the call letters used for Coast Guard Radio in Kodiak, Alaska in 1945. Someone noted on P&S that they also mention Goodwyn in the radio broadcast as one of the DJ's. Not sure about that. I'd need to verify by rewatching!
• Glenn Miller also disappeared in a Plane over the English Channel in 1944.
• Sayid said that the radio waves could've bounced all over the ionosphere and allowed them to receive it. Hurley makes a joke reference to "Or another time........just kidding dude" A little shout out to all of the time travel reference Losties are making.
• Bernard's a dentist. Maybe we're going to have a "Very Special" episode in the near future where the smoke monster or Zeke has gingivitis and comes to Bernard for the cure!
• Charlie got his revenge on Locke after the beating he got last episode. And didn't want the heroin. He also took out his aggression on poor Sun.... Any bets that she'll find out Charlie did it? Yeah...it's a no brainer.
• Book Locke was looking through as he was "alphabetizing" was "Occurence at Owl Creek Bridge" Can you believe that I actually read this thing in High School? What a great short-story. It's about a guy that is about to be hung but the rope breaks and he goes on an amazing journey to escape the clutches of his enemies (or officers of the law...i forget!) Anyway....we find out in the end of the story that it was all in his imagination between the time that he got pushed off the cliff and ultimately is hung and killed. Yep....another allusion to the fact that this is all a dream! But it's just a teaser from the writers/producers. That won't be what we ulimately find out about our Lost Castaways (or will it??? I'd be fired up!). Also...I don't think Locke was alphabetizing....he probably is just trying to make sense of what has been happening. He thought that the hatch was going to provide him answers and he's getting frustrated....(hence taking is aggression out on Charlie)..... Did I figure this out on my own? no no.....Lost Podcast people! Subscribe to it!!!
• Ohhhhh right. Forgot...the manuscript that Hurley found (was it in the hatch or from the plane wreck?) was entitled Bad Twin. This has subsequently been released on Amazon.com (just for the show...it's not really for sale)....apparently the author is the guy that got sucked into the Plane Engine in the Pilot Episode (Gary Troup). Well at least that's what they said on P&S. This is what I found:

• Jack, Sawyer, Kate, Ana Lucia Love Rectangle is getting a lot more interesting. Jack, although angry with Kate, still went on her advice to question Ana Lucia on the Sun beating. And Sawyer orchestrated the whole thing....making Kate once again lean more towards Jack than Sawyer....but where is Jack leaning? Ahhh these writers are brilliant. Evangeline said in the Lost Podcast interview segment that we shouldn't expect Kate to make a decision in this season. Well I know I didn't expect one!
• And of course, Sawyer's got the guns. A caller into P&S mentioned that the guns are actually probably safer with Sawyer than with the braintrust of Jack/Locke as he will only whip them out when they are needed. But we'll see where that story goes. Sawyer has reminded us that he is not someone "everybody loves" and thank god for that!!! But Kate is probably right, he just wants to be hated for the person he has been in the past.

Update from "Fire + Water"
Remember I said I heard in the podcast there was supposed to be some writing on the building in the Charlie flashback? Well if you read the comments in the last recap, we did find out that the building is from a Pink Floyd album cover. But the writing on the wall (thanks to the Lost Podcast) we discovered said "Widmore Construction." Doesn't mean much now, but the producers noted it would be wise to write it down! Probably something of the Hanso Foundation similarity.

As always, I'm sure there's more. But I definitely provided enough info to chew on. Definitely some rivalries forming once again within the original fuselage passengers. That's where this show works its magic. So, now I leave the blog in your hands. Anything else you caught? Anything that I messed up? Feel free to chime in with your thoughts.
